Jamie ha 21 anni. Originaria di Atlanta, arriva a Brooklyn per far visita a una sua amica, che però non riesce a rintracciare. Appena arrivata incontra Charlie, e gli chiede indicazioni sulla strada. Lui non ha nulla da fare e molto tempo libero, e questo li porta a trascorrere insieme giornate molto particolari, e condividere insalate di cavolo, corse nel parco, gallerie d’arte e after party. Il film racconta la nascita di forti legami tra estranei e le infinite possibilità che si aprono quando non si sa che cosa fare.
Jamie is 21. She's from Atlanta. She's come to Brooklyn to visit a friend of hers, but she can't find her. Jamie meets Charlie when she asks him for directions. Nothing to do and nothing but time leads them to bowls of coleslaw, footraces in the park, art shows, and after parties. Quiet City is a exploration of connection between strangers and the possibilities that arise when you have no idea of what you're doing.
Note di regia / director' notes“Una delle cose più importanti per me era ritrarre New York in un modo diverso, volevo mostrarne un lato bello e tranquillo. L’altro obiettivo era creare un ambiente dove gli attori si sentissero a proprio agio e non si preoccupassero della sceneggiatura, che ho usato solo come canovaccio. Tutte le scene erano state scritte, ma gli attori dovevano recitarle con parole proprie: all’inizio erano un po’ nervosi, ma poi tra loro si è creata un’intesa simile a quella che avevo scritto per i due protagonisti del film”.
"One of the most important things to me was to show New York in a different way than it's usually seen. I wanted to show a side that is still and beautiful. Another thing that was important to me was to create an environment where the actors felt at ease, without having to worry about their lines. What we did was use the script as a blueprint. Each scene in the film exists in the script, but the actors put everything into their own words. At first the actors were a little nervous, but soon after we started shooting they began to relax and really react to each other and ended up getting to know each other as the characters did."
