Tre giovani ceceni, amici dall’infanzia fino alla morte, crescono a Grozny. Grazie alla passione per il cinema di uno di loro, entriamo nelle loro case e conosciamo le loro vicende familiari, che possiamo seguire nel giro di vent’anni. Alla telecamera parlano dei loro progetti, dei loro sogni, delle prospettive per il futuro. Vediamo come cambia tutto quando arriva l’invasione russa e cominciano i bombardamenti. Vengono uccisi amici e parenti, muore il primo dei tre compagni, trascinato via e fucilato dai soldati russi. A distanza di pochi anni muore il secondo del gruppo con la telecamera nelle mani, colpito da una granata russa. Grazie alla moglie del fotografo e al terzo compagno, l'unico sopravissuto, ci rimane un’importante testimonianza della realtà cecena.
Three friends from Chechnya grow up in Groznyy. As one of them is a film-lover, the viewer is allowed into their houses and hears family stories covering a period of 20 years. In front of the camera they talk about their projects, their dreams, their plans for the future. Everything changes with the Russian invasion and the bombings. Friends and relatives are killed, one of those three friends dies, executed by Russian soldiers. After a few years another one dies, with the camera in his hands, hit by a Russian grenade. Thanks to the photographer's wife and to the third comrade, the only survivor, this important portrait of life in Chechnya remains.
