Tematica ricorrente, quella del rapporto tra padri e figli. Eppure esistono autori che la rielaborano in maniera imprevedibile e ammaliante. Come in The Girls, dove alla fine resta un ritratto sottilmente inquietante di un padre - forse - poco cresciuto. Countryside britannico. Due figlie attendono l'arrivo della madre giocando con il padre. Quello che apparentemente sembra un gioco, tuttavia, si rivela qualcosa di più contorto. O forse no. È meglio non sprecare parole per raccontare questo gioiello umido come le foglie vicine ad un ruscello.

Father-child relationships are a recurring theme. Yet there are authors who manage to reinterpret it in unexpected, fascinating ways. Like in The Girls, that presents the subtly disturbing portrait of a father who has - maybe - never grown up. The British countryside. Two daughters are waiting for their mother, and in the meanwhile they play with their father. Yet, what apparently looks like a game turns out to be something more complicated. Or maybe not. Words just can't describe this damp gem - damp like leaves by a stream.
