In Serbia ci sono circa 600 insediamenti abusivi, i cui abitanti sono per lo più di etnia rom. Di questi, 105 sono a Belgrado e altri 17 nella municipalità di Novi Beograd. Questa giovane regista si è conquistata l'accesso a uno di questi insediamenti e nel film ci mostra la quotidianità della famiglia Stankovic: una famiglia rom che vive alle spalle dei grattacieli del caseggiato 71 di Novi Beograd. È un documentario pieno di ottimismo e calore, e una forte replica alle immagini negative solitamente associate alla popolazione rom.
There are 600 squatter settlements in Serbia, the inhabitants of which are mostly of Roma origin. Of these, 105 are in Belgrade with a further 17 in New Belgrade. This young filmmaker has gained remarkable access to one of these settlements and shows the everyday life of the Stankovic family: A Roma family who live behind the skyscrapers of Block 71 in New Belgrade. This is a documentary full of optimism and warmth, and a strong counter to the negative images usually associated with the Roma population.
Biografia - Biography:
Ivana Todorovic was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, a country that has changed its name repeatedly throughout the years due to various political upheaval. She holds a BA in Anthropology with additional diplomas from the schools Peace Studies and New Politics. She has also participated in the Ateliers Varan film workshop in Belgrade. She's moved to New York City.
