Dopo anni di super8 immersi nel latte, di mummie imbalsamate che parlano d'amore, di spaventapasseri che ragionano dei massimi sistemi, ecco il primo lungometraggio fiction dei fratelli Bukharov. I Ciprì e Maresco di Budapest, pionieri di un cinema malinconico e alcolico, sono musicisti, ricercatori, inventori. Nei loro cortometraggi - presentati anche al Milano Film Festival - hanno posto molte domande, senza ovviamente fornire una risposta. Con Slow Mirror le domande aumentano alla durata di un lungometraggio.

La storia. Ma è poi così fondamentale la storia? Se gli uomini vivono, si dannano per sopravvivere, e poi muoiono, è poi così importante sapere cosa succede? Forse è sufficiente lasciarsi cullare dalle immagini. Chi invece ambisce a un filo narrativo, sappia che tutto parte da un uomo che a causa di un'operazione alla lingua rimane paralizzato. Bela Tarr, Jodorowsky e Andy Warhol non saprebbero venirne a capo, pur rimanendone - forse - stupiti. Di certo il pubblico del festival potrà fornire a questi luminari delle risposte sul film. E - forse - potrà confermare che, in fondo, Slow Mirror è una commedia. Sì, è (quasi) sicuro: Slow Mirror è una oscura, lugubre e tenera commedia sulla vita.

After years of Super8 films soaked in milk, of embalmed mummies talking about love, and of scarecrows discussing the meaning of life, the Buharov Brothers finally present their first fiction. The Budapest version of Ciprì and Maresco, the pioneers of melancholy, boozy films, the Buharov Brothers are musicians, researchers, and creators. In their short films - presented also at Milano Film Festival - they have set many questions, obviously without ever answering any of them. Slow Mirror simply increases the number of questions according to the duration of a feature film.

The story. Is the story really that essential? If human beings live and worry about life only to eventually die, is it really so important to know what happens? Maybe we should just let ourselves be lulled by images. Those who absolutely want a story should know that everything starts with a man paralyzed because of a tongue operation. Bela Tarr, Jodorowsky and Andy Warhol wouldn't understand it, but they would - possibly - find it amazing. Festival-goers will surely be able to give these luminaries some answers on the film. And they will - possibly - confirm that after all Slow Mirror is a comedy. Yes, it almost certainly is a dark, gloomy, and tender comedy on life.

"Il soggetto originale era l'inseguimento dei propri sogni, ma la realtà ha stravolto tutti i nostri piani: un amico attore, che ha recitato in tutti i nostri film, è rimasto improvvisamente paralizzato. Quindi abbiamo dovuto rivoluzionare tutta la sceneggiatura, anche perchè nessuno riusciva a comprendere ciò che era successo: non c'era spiegazione fisica dell'accaduto.

Il film parla di sogni e realtà, e del sottile filo che li separa. Parla delle spiegazioni che diamo a ciò che accade e dei modi che abbiamo per affrontarlo; di sogni, ricordi, dottori e terapie...del rapporto di causa ed effetto nelle cose della vita. La guarigione è già cominciata!"

"The topic of the original script was the pursuit of dreams, but life is unpredictable, and everything suddenly changed: a friend who acted in all our movies suddenly got paralized. We had to change the whole script, even because nobody was able to understand what had happened Ð there was no physical reason whatsoever for that, nor had he had an accident.

This film is about dreams and reality, and about the very thin veil between them. It is about searching for reasons for what happens, and also about facing it Ð and itÕs about dreams, memories, doctors, and therapies...about cause-effect relationships. The recovery has already started."
