Raccontare la storia di Ztracená Dovolená e' un rischio. Si rischia di perderne il senso, il percorso che traccia. Ed e' un percorso fuori dal comune, incredibile. Allora forse vale la pena raccontarla per immagini, per scatti che rimangono impressi nella memoria.

Il sottotitolo del film e' a detective documentary. Ci sono dei rotoli di pellicola non sviluppata, che un turista ceco ritrova per caso in una valigia in Svezia. Ci sono 756 fotografie piuttosto datate di 6 turisti cinesi. Ci sono ricerche, interviste, ricostruzioni. Fotografie sovrapposte al reale, per identificare luoghi e persone.Poi si va in Cina. E dalla Cina si va sulla televisione cinese, davanti a 300.000.000 di spettatori.

Il motore del sentimento umano e' la ricerca della verita'. Lost Holiday ne e' una affascinante conferma. Un film che piu' di ogni altra indagine dimostra lo stato del mondo globale, in modo astuto, leggero, appassionante.

Summarizing the story told in Ztracená Dovolená represents a risk. The risk of losing sight of its meaning, of the path it traces. It is an unusual, incredible path. Then maybe it is worth being told through images and shots that will stick in one's mind.

The film's subtitle is "A Detective Documentary". A Czech tourists in Sweden accidentally finds some undeveloped films in a suitcase. There are 756 quite old pictures of 6 Chinese tourists. There are researches, interviews and reconstructions. Pictures are compared with reality, in order to identify people and places.Then they head to China. And there they appear on TV, in front of an audience of 300,000,000.

What inspires human beings is the quest for truth and Lost Holiday fully confirms that. A subtle, light, and compelling film that depicts the world exactly as it is.

"In principio c'era una domanda: in un mondo in cui una persona su quattro è cinese, è possibile rintracciare sei cinesi sconosciuti avendo solo le foto da turisti che hanno perso? Da queste foto cosa possiamo capire dei loro proprietari e di noi stessi?
Le foto da turisti (come me di fronte alla Tour Eiffel) sono semplici, banali e nel contempo misteriose. Forniscono un certo messaggio sul nostro mondo. Lost Holiday è un giallo in cui si cercano non solo sei uomini in carne e ossa, ma anche una figura rappresentativa dell'uomo moderno. Ed è soprattutto un film sul mondo globale di oggi. Non è solo un documentario, è la decisione di rendere a qualcuno le fotografie che ha perso - in questo modo un film può essere essere utile in un modo diverso...."

"At first there was a question: in a world in which every fourth is Chinese, is it possible to trace six unknown Chinese having only their lost tourist photos? What can we understand from these photos about their owners and about ourselves?
Tourist photos (like me in front of the Eiffel tower) are simple, banal and mysterious at the same time. They provide a certain message about our world. Lost Holiday is a detective story in which we are searching not only for six real men but also for a character representing the contemporary man. And it is mainly a film about our modern global world. It is not only a documentary, it is our decision to give back to somebody their lost photos - this way a film can also be useful in a different way..."
