Biografia di Avi Mograbi
Avi Mograbi è nato a Tel Aviv il 12 maggio 1956. Figlio del proprietario della pił celebre sala della città, il Cinema Mograbi, Avi si nutre di cinema fin dall'infanzia, tra la sala paterna e, appena viene creata, la Cineteca. Studia alla scuola di belle arti Ramat Ha'sharon, dedicandosi alle arti plastiche, e in seguito frequenta i corsi di Filosofia all'Università di Tel Aviv. Dopo un primo cortometraggio di fiction Deportation (1989), Mograbi si dedica al documentario a partire da The Reconstruction (1994). Tra i pochi registi israeliani ad avere un occhio critico rispetto ai miti della società israeliana, il cinema di Mograbi, dove spesso è protagonista in prima persona, è tra i più caustici e intelligenti nell'indagare il conflitto isreaelo-palestinese. Nonostante i suoi film siano anche finanziati da istituzioni israeliane, il suo cinema è più noto all'estero, dove è stato presente e premiato a diversi festival, che in patria. Insegna cinema sperimentale all'Universitą di Tel Aviv e alla Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design di Gerusalemme.
Avi Mograbi was born in Tel Aviv on May 12th 1956. Being the son of the manager of the most famous theatre in the city, Cinema Mograbi, he started to be fond of films as a kid, growing up between his father's cinema and, as soon as it was created, the film archive. He studied at the Fine Art Academy in Ramat Ha'sharon, where he dedicated himself to plastic arts. He later attended the Philosophy faculty at the University of Tel Aviv. After his first fiction short film Deportation (1989), Mograbi dedicated himself to documentary-making, beginning with The Reconstruction (1994). Mograbi is among the few Israeli filmmakers who take a critical look on the myths of the Israeli society, and his films - in which he often appears - offer some of the most caustic and intelligent inquiries on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Even though his films are also funded by Israeli institutions, they are more widely known in other countries, where he has attended several festivals and won many prizes. He currently teaches Experimental Cinema at the University of Tel Aviv and at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem.
