Nel 1998 lo stato di Israele compie 50 anni. Mograbi viene incaricato da un irrequieto produttore di seguire le celebrazioni ufficiali per la tv israeliana.
Contemporaneamente il produttore palestinese Daoud Kutaub commissiona al regista un lavoro sui territori dei palestinesi espropriati dagli israeliani 50 anni prima. Due incarichi di natura opposta, a cui si aggiungono altri problemi: Mograbi, per la variabilità del calendario ebraico, scopre che compirà gli anni proprio nello stesso giorno delle celebrazioni. Intanto, il progetto su cui aveva investito per il suo futuro gli crolla davanti agli occhi: il terreno che aveva acquistato per costruire una casa è stato registrato male al catasto, qualcosa non quadra nei confini e cercando di venderlo l'acquirente se ne accorge. L'apologo calato nel personale è la scintilla della fiction che salda gli aspetti documentaristici in una storia di terreni, proprietà e confini che riguarda israeliani e palestinesi. In questo film, presentato ancora alla Berlinale - Forum, Mograbi è anche interprete e coinvolge figure reali in ruoli leggermente sfalsati e funzionali al suo disegno di racconto della realtà: la questione cruciale dei territori occupati nel confltto israelo-palestinese trova una chiave brillante per arrivare allo spettatore.
In 1998, the State of Israel turns 50. Mograbi is asked by a fretful producer to cover the official celebrations for the Israeli television. At the same time, Palestinian producer Daoud Kutaub commissions Mograbi to make a film on the Palestinian territories, expropriated by Israel 50 years before. Two opposite jobs, as more problems come up: Mograbi discovers that his birthday, according to the Hebrew calendar, will be on the same day as the celebration. Meanwhile, the project he has designed for his future is shattered in front of his eyes: the land he has bought to build a house has not been properly registered at the Land Office, something is wrong with its boundaries, and when he tries to sell the land the buyer notices it. This personal apologue provides this fiction with the spark that welds together the elements of the documentary to form a story about lands, ownership, and boundaries, which involves both Israelis and Palestinians. In this film, also screened in the Forum section at the Berlinale, Mograbi also plays the protagonist, and he involves real characters in slightly different roles than their actual ones, in order to better represent reality: the crucial question of the occupied territories in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict reaches the audience in a brilliant way.
