Sinossi / Synopsis
Sulla riva sinistra del fiume Scheldt, un grattacielo domina i dintorni. Gli abitanti di Anversa l'hanno battezzato "Chicago block" e lo considerano un luogo da cui stare lontani. Nei suoi 26 piani, i belgi più poveri abitano accanto a immigrati di 35 diverse nazionalità. La telecamera installata nell'ascensore di questo alveare di cemento cattura il passaggio dei suoi occupanti. Ne segue alcuni nelle loro case e ne raccoglie le grandi e piccole storie; storie di dignità e forza di volontà che vanno ben al di là del luogo in cui si dispiegano.
On the left bank of the Scheldt, a block of flats towers above its surroundings. The people of Antwerp have named it the "Chicago block" and perceive it as a place to avoid. Belgians of modest means live (here) next door to immigrants, representing over 35 nationalities on 26 storeys. The camera is set up in the lift of this concrete beehive, catching the occupants as they pass by.
It follows some of them home, picking up on their stories, some big, others small; stories whose dignity and strength of will reach out far beyond their surroundings.
