Sinossi / Synopsis

A journey to the Indian part of Kashmir, to meet the leaders of the revolutionary movement, the fighters for independence, and an Islamic leader who preaches GandhiÕs non-violent resistance. The film depicts the clashes between Muslim and Induist Kashmiris, as well as the wars between India and Pakistan, the two nations that have been claiming their right on Kashmir since 1947. Himalaya, Hindykush, Pamir and Karakoram are names that evoke an ancient, mysterious, and enthralling past. However, Kashmir is now confined in the role of Asian powder keg, the bone of contention between two nuclear powers. Filmmaker Udi Aloni tells us about his experience among KashmirÕs fighters for independence.

Note di regia / Director's Statement

"When the Indian Government became aware to the fact that the leaders of the nonviolent liberation front (JKLF) opened their hearts, and their stories, to our crew, they banned Udi Aloni from Indian soil, including Occupied Kashmir. When the rest of his crew quietly returned to finish filming, they were tracked by Indian security forces and narrowly avoided arrest. Some of their more sensitive footage was taken from them at the airport in Srinagar, Kashmir's capitol and largest city."
