Squattrinato operaio, finito il turno di lavoro, va a prepararsi negli spogliatoi. Per cosa? Per il suo matrimonio. I colleghi lo deridono, ma poi lo mettono in guardia. "Guarda che ci sono donne che ti sposerebbero solo per soldi". Ed infatti... Pervaso da un'atmosfera da dopo-sbornia, Love in vain è pieno di humour molto amaro. Con dei protagonisti che non sembrerebbero fuori luogo in un film di Kaurismaki o di Jim Jarmusch, ma che nella loro originalità creano un terzetto memorabile. Occhio! Ci scappa anche il bebè!
After his working shift, a penniless worker goes to the changing room to get ready. What for? For his wedding. His colleagues make fun of him, but then they warn him: "be careful, there are women out there who would marry you just for your money". And so it is... Characterized by a hung-over-like atmosphere, Love in Vain is full of bitter humour. The protagonists would not be out of place in a film by Kaurismaki or Jim Jarmusch, yet in their peculiarity they create a memorable threesome. But careful! Pregnancy is just round the corner!
Note di regia / Director's StatementI had never made a comedy before, so I wanted to study that by making this film Kurjuuden kuningas. Once it was finished, I noticed that it didn't turn out to be a straightforward comedy at all but a rather sad and melancholic story about a pregnant little girl and a fiancé sleeping in a garbage can.

Biografia/Biography:
Born and raised in Lapland, Northern Finland, Mikko Myllylahti has studied screenwriting & film directing at the University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH, School of Motion Picture, Television and Production Design since 2005. He has also written two collections of poetry and is working on his first novel at the moment. Kurjuuden kuningas is his 2nd rehearsal film at the UIAH.
