Bucarest: Dorel è in fermento perché il figlio Oli sta per sposarsi, e per l'occasione ha invitato due amici del figlio per assistere insieme a lui al matrimonio. Ma Oli è negli Stati Uniti, e Dorel non può far altro che seguire la cerimonia via webcam. Una commedia amara, nella migliore tradizione della scuola rumena, che alterna il sorriso a una leggera malinconia, sulla lontananza, la solitudine, e i miracoli della tecnologia.
Bucharest: Dorel is in turmoil over his son Oli's wedding. For the occasion, he has invited two of his son's friends to attend the wedding with him. Yet Oli is in the United States, and Dorel cannot but follow the ceremony via webcam. A bitter comedy about distance, loneliness, and the wonders of technology that represents Romanian top-quality filmmaking and makes you smile and feel a light melancholy.
Note di regia / Director's StatementOli's wedding is the true story of my friend Oli who married Sarah in the US and of his father who got to see the wedding on a webcam. I decided to make this film after a visit at Dorel's house . I was very moved by his way of dealing with loniliness. There was a mixture of sadness and joy. He tried desperatly to hide his sadness by talking a lot and beeing very active. It was as if he didn't want to allow himself the time to think about his state. This is what I tried to brong in the film. I was interested not so much in the story development as in expressing as deep as possible Dorel's attitude and feelings. I wanted to present a state of fact that was powerfull enough in itself so that it did'n need any twists of story or extraordinary happenings. No surprises just the emotion of the situation. This is why I decided to shoot in a documentaristic way. A hand held camera and very long shots. I was not telling you a story that had to be presented in a most interesting way but just observing what is happening in front of me. I was carefull not to have the camera anticipate any of the actor's movements.
