Sinossi / Synopsis

Questa non è la storia di un male specifico che attanaglia un personaggio preciso, un soldato israeliano in licenza. È la storia di un male oscuro che è incurabile: la guerra. Ora, il nostro è giovane, e agisce d'impulso. La famiglia cerca di interpretarne gli strani comportamenti, dettati quasi da una fame inspiegabile. Di libertà, di novità, di sesso. E invece, il male si aggira. Film di diploma di un giovane talento del cinema israeliano, una storia dura come un sasso che non si riesce a mandare giù. Per fortuna.

This film, telling the story of an Israeli soldier on leave, does not depict the case of this specific character only. It also portrays an obscure and incurable condition: war. The young soldier behaves impulsively, expressing his unexplainable urge for freedom, new experiences, and sex, which his family unsuccessfully tries to understand. However, evil is always around the corner. Filmed by a young talent from Tel Aviv's Film University, this story is as hard as a stone you can't swallow. Luckily.

Note di regia / Director's Statement

The myth of coming home, especially from a war zone, is a basic human story I always find intriguing. I wanted to explore the margins of this myth in a condensed chronicle story, of a protagonist who's not co-operating with both the family's role-play he needs to take part in, and also with his role in the dramatic story he is set in. Avoiding psychology, explanations and character's background - I've found this an interesting challenge as a writer and as a director.

Born 1979, Israel. Lives and works in Tel-Aviv. Recently graduated from the film department at the "Midrasha" school of arts, Beit-Berl College. His short student films have been screened in film festivals around the world. On Leave is his graduation film.
