Si parte da New York e si arriva a Belgrado, per tornare a New York: Robert è un cinquantenne imbolsito e in bancarotta, musicista ormai in declino. Branko è un giovane immigrato serbo, che nella Grande Mela si arrangia con piccoli lavori, sognando di sposare la sua ragazza, rimasta a Belgrado. L'incontro tra i due dà il via alla storia: Robert, che ormai non ha più niente da perdere, andrà a Belgrado per sposare la ragazza di Branko, e portarla così legalmente a New York - in cambio, ovviamente, di soldi.
Robert non ha però calcolato quello che non è mai possibile calcolare: il suo cuore cinico e duro si scioglierà a poco a poco per lasciare spazio all'amore, che arriva inaspettato, tenero e delicato, come nelle più classiche commedie romantiche (anche se, come tutte le definizioni, anche questa non rende completamente giustizia al film).
Alla sua opera prima, il regista Darko Lungulov ci porta in una Belgrado affascinante e lontana dagli stereotipi, al seguito di un personaggio a cui è impossibile non affezionarsi, scontroso solo in apparenza, sagace e ironico quanto basta per non rendersi antipatico.
Acclamato e premiato al Tribeca Film Festival, il film è come una boccata d'aria fresca: si esce dalla sala con il sorriso sulle labbra e l'animo leggero.

From New York to Belgrade, and back: Robert is a flaccid, bankrupt, fifty-year-old man, and a musician now on the wane. Branko is a young Serbian immigrant, who manages to get by in the Big Apple by taking small jobs and dreams of getting married with his girlfriend, who has stayed behind in Belgrade. The story starts when the two of them meet: Robert - who has nothing to lose - goes to Belgrade and marries Branko's girlfriend, in order to take her to New York legally. For money, of course.
However, Robert has not taken into account what can never be taken into account: his cynical, hard heart will melt little by little, making room for love. It will come unexpectedly, tenderly and delicately, like in classic romantic comedies (even if, like every definition, this one does not completely do justice to the film).
This is Darko Lungulov's debut work, in which he presents a fascinating Belgrade, far from commonplace stereotypes. He traces the story of a character the audience cannot help but grow fond of; he is only apparently grumpy, and as shrewd and ironic as it needs to make himself disagreeable.
Hailed and awarded at Tribeca Film Festival, the film is like a gush of fresh air: viewers will leave the theatre smiling and feeling light-hearted.

Biografia/Biography: Nato a Belgrado, in Jugoslavia, si è trasferito a New York nel 1991 dove ha ottenuto, nel 1996, una laurea in cinema e video al City College. Tra il 1997 e il 2003, ha lavorato per la casa di produzione Spiral Pictures (un dipartimento del Ross Institute di East Hampton) come co-direttore/co-produttore di documentari. Inoltre, è stato membro della facoltà di scienze della comunicazione del Ross Institute e professore associato del Media Program al Southampton College, Long Island University. Nello stesso tempo, Lungulov ha anche lavorato su progetti indipendenti. Nel 2003, ha intrapreso una carriera indipendente ed è tornato a Belgrado, in Serbia. Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, he moved to New York in 1991 where, in 1996, he obtained his BA in film and video from the City College of New York. Between 1997 and 2003, he worked at the production company Spiral Pictures - a division of the Ross Institute in East Hampton, NY - as co-director/co-producer of documentaries. Additionally, he was a Media Studies faculty member at the Ross School. He also worked as an adjunct professor, teaching in the Media Program of Southampton College, Long Island University. During that same time, Darko collaborated on independent projects. In 2003, he started a freelance career and moved back to Belgrade, Serbia. In the following year, Darko Lungulov's first independent feature documentary Escape (produced by his own production house "Here and There Productions" from New York), won the Audience Award at its world premiere at Hamptons International Film Festival 2004. It was then screened at Amsterdam International Documentary Festival 2004, Belgrade International Film Festival FEST 2005, and Leipzig International Documentary Film Festival 2005. His film Zivot (Life) was present at the First Belgrade Regional Doc Festival, and was screened at Go East 2006 - Festival of Central and Easter European Film. Darko lives now in Serbia, but still maintains professional ties with the USA, where he is currently working on series of short documentaries for Plum TV and periodically teaches production workshops (digital filmmaking) at Ross Institute.
