Di Rossellini si è spesso detto che è un "eterno esordiente". Olmi e Kezich, con la 22 dicembre, possono considerarsi tra i responsabili del suo nuovo esordio del 1964, quando intervennero assieme alla Rai e all'Italsider a produrre il primo capitolo del suo gigantesco e incredibile progetto di "enciclopedia" narrata in immagini. La storia dell'umanità narrata attraverso il filo conduttore del ferro: dall'introduzione della fusione nelle terre etrusche alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Un progetto che continua a essere considerato, con un po' di soggezione, un "corpo estraneo" rispetto al cinema italiano in generale, e che conferma quanto Rossellini sia un autore di un coraggio e di una genialità incalcolabili, e la sua opera sia necessaria.
Rossellini has often been considered an "eternal beginner". Olmi and Kezich, along with 22 dicembre, can be regarded as those who made him debut in 1964, as they collaborated with the Italian television Rai and Italsider to produce the first chapter of his huge and incredible audiovisual "encyclopaedia" project. The history of humankind is narrated through the underlying theme of iron: from the introduction of fusion during the Etruscan era, to World War II. A project that is still considered - with a little awe - a "foreign body" with respect to Italian filmmaking in general, and that proves Rossellini's immeasurable courage and genius, as well as the indispensability of his work.
