Sinossi / Synopsis
Bud is 19 years old and deaf and dumb. He does not have good relationship with his family, also because he is so stubborn. His best friend - who cannot hear or speak either - is about to move away from the town, and Bud will have to learn to do without his support. Between Meadows and Loach, the young Henry Drake has his roots in the tradition of British social cinema, revealing great freshness and talent. The two main characters, deaf and dumb in real life, do the rest. Written with Harry Wootliff, who wrote Trip, which was in the competition at the 2008 MFF.
Note di regia / Director's Statement
"Big Mouth was inspired by the real lives of the two main actors who live in my home county Cornwall, both of whom are profoundly deaf. Despite being close friends, they live with their disabilities in different ways but have each has so much energy they are naturally engaging. Although unique characters we felt it was important not to focus on their disability, instead feeling it more appropriate to reconcile that characteristic with a story that is universally applicable to everybody: the quest to find one's self. In this way, the emotion remains accessible to all while also allowing an opportunity to explore the aural-visual relationship in attempting to portray a deaf perspective."
