Sinossi / Synopsis
Non c'è niente di più disturbante del suono di un tagliaerba in funzione. Peggio del ronzio di mille insetti. Tutti i vicini hanno un giardino che curano con orgoglio grazie a tosaerba di ultima generazione. Il nuovo arrivato vorrebbe adeguarsi, ma fa una fatica pazzesca. I veri abitanti del quartiere - lepidotteri, invertebrati, cani da guardia e bestie varie Š osservano la buffa scena. Un punto di vista inconsueto che trasforma gli spettatori in curiosi spioni dell'erba del vicino. Che no, non può certo essere più verde.
There's nothing more annoying than the sound of a lawnmower. It's worse than a thousand insects buzzing around you. All the neighbours have a garden which they look after with great pride, using the latest- generation lawnmowers. The newcomer would like to adapt, but it is very hard. The real inhabitants of the district - moths and butterflies, invertebrates, watchdogs and various animals - observe the comic scene. An unusual point of view that transforms the audience into curious spies of the neighbour's grass. Which definitely is not greener.
Note di regia / Director's Statement
Neighbors was born of an encounter with a specific location: Boisromand, a pretty little French village with a friendly suburban housing sector where, each Sunday, everybody goes outside to mow their lawn. In this setting, a person is observed unawares. The furtive, paparazzi-style point of view eventually reveals itself to be the much more troubling viewpoint of insects. The use of different filmic mediums underlines this perspective. The film subtly transforms from documentary into fiction, creating an impressionistic comedy about man's intimate relationship with nature.

After studying graphic design, Jules Zingg worked as an assistant director on several shorts and features, while also designing posters for a number of film distributors and international sales agents. Neighbors is his third short film.
