Sinossi / Synopsis

Inquietante.

In a Fascist society, impulses which are curbed are released unnaturally: at times, limbs tremble frenetically, an unconscious rebellion is punished by blows with a pistol. In this scenario, the Belgian Tom Geens tells the story of Margot and her family, between incest and improvised embraces. It is a film without pity, produced by Cinema Extreme, an English fund for high budget research short films, shot in Super VHS, a format which seems to be part of a recent past as far as it can be seen. Disturbing.
Note di regia / Director's Statement

"You could say that being part of the middle classes nowadays is a pretty safe place to be, violence is something that mostly happens on TV. It is true that we have never lived so comfortably and lengthy, shielded from disease and misfortune. But does that mean itÕs less violent? ItÕs definitely pushed out of sight, but not necessarily out of mind. Living in total comfort comes with a price ticket. We have never had so much to lose. We talk about being free, but we probably never have felt more trapped. The lack of direct violence in our lives makes us feel out of touch. We look at reality like we do at an attraction in the zoo. Neurosis is our violence."

Biografia/Biography

Tom Geens is Belgian and moved to London in 1993. Very much a self-educated filmmaker who through a combination of acting, advertising and writing ended up making short after short. With not bad results, winning prizes for several of them. He's shot his first feature film, Menteur (Liar) in Belgium in 2008. A micro-budget film, funded by ARTE and the French speaking community in Belgium. It premiered at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in July 2009. He is now in development on his new feature film, Couple in a Hole with the help of the UKFC and MEDIA. It's the story of a middle-aged, middle class English couple that live like feral people in a hole in the middle of nowhere. Production is scheduled for summer 2011.
