Nel paesino turco di Gece la vita è scandita dai rintocchi e dalle preghiere del minareto. Il film racconta le vite di Yakup, Yildiz e Omer, tutti figli di pastori poco più che bambini. La camera esplora con rara delicatezza le loro ansie, paure, frustrazioni e sogni. Il tutto mimetizzato in un paesaggio brullo, rugoso, quasi lunare; specchio di una società patriarcale ancorata alle tradizioni e alla violenza. I colori saturi e una fotografia impeccabile incorniciano questo "nastro turco".
In the Turkish village of Gece, the calls to prayer from the minaret mark the passing of the days. The film tells the story of the lives of Yakup, Yildiz and Omer, all shepherds' children and little more than youngsters. The camera explores their anxieties, fears, frustrations and dreams with rare delicacy. Everything is camouflaged in a bleak and rugged, almost lunar, landscape which reflects a patriarchal society anchored in its traditions and in violence. The saturated colours and impeccable photography complete this "Turkish ribbon".

Reha Erdem studia cinema a Parigi e debutta come regista nel 1989 "Oh Moon - A Ay" con cui ha vinto il premio dell'Associazione degli Scrittori turchi come miglior film dell'anno. Dieci anni dopo, dirige il suo secondo lungometraggio "Run for Money - Kaç Para Kaç" (1999), candidato agli Osca".
