Sinossi / Synopsis
Una lettera scritta con inchiostro rosso su cartoncino rosa mette in subbuglio l'apatia di Don Johnston, seduttore incallito di mezza età, appena scaricato dalla fidanzata. L'uomo avrebbe avuto un figlio dalla mittente della lettera, che non si firma e non aggiunge altre informazioni. Il vicino Winston lo convince a mettersi in viaggio per andare a trovare le sue ex amanti per scoprire la verità. Il "mistero della lettera" che caratterizza la trama, ancora una volta, è un pretesto per indagare l'importanza dell'andare, della scoperta del sè data dal movimento, dal mettere in discussione le certezze che, nell'America post 11 settembre, si carica di significati metaforici. Premiato dalla giuria di Cannes, Broken Flowers è anche il primo film di JJ ricco di personaggi femminili che, assieme alla grandiosa impassibilità di Bill Murray, assicurano un tono di gentile umorismo.
A letter written in red ink on pink card arouses Don Johnston from his apathy. He is a hardened middle-aged ladies' man and has just been dumped by his girlfriend. The man is alleged to have had a child by the writer of the letter who does not sign it and gives no other information. His neighbour Winston convinces him to set off and find his former mistresses to discover the truth.The "mystery of the letter" which characterizes the plot, once again is a pretext to investigate the importance of going to going, of discovering oneself given by movement, of questioning the certainties which in, post 9/11 America, are full of metaphorical meanings. Awarded the Jury's prize, Broken Flowers is also the first film by JJ full of female characters who, together with the grandiose impassibility of Bill Murray, ensure a gentle sense of humour.
