Sinossi / Synopsis
Zack è uno dj disoccupato e vinto dallo sconforto, Jack è un magnaccia di poco spessore. Incastrati, vengono rinchiusi nel penitenziario di New Orleans. L'arrivo di Bob, un turista italiano accusato di omicidio, cambierà i loro destini, risvegliando in loro la voglia di muoversi, sognare, vivere. Al terzo film, JJ diventa un caso internazionale. Sviluppa la storia partendo dagli attori, e riversando nella pellicola le amicizie con Waits, Lurie e Benigni. Come in On the Road di Kerouac - e il personaggio di Lurie si chiama Jack - quello che conta è il viaggio, la necessità del movimento, dell'andare. JJ sapeva dove sarebbe arrivato? Non possiamo dirlo, ma il risultato è uno dei suoi vertici, premiato dal pubblico e della critica mondiale, un cult del cinema americano degli anni Ottanta.
Zack is an out of work dj who is overcome by dejection, Jack is a shallow pimp. Framed, they end up in jail in New Orleans. The arrival of Bob, an Italian tourist accused of murder, will change their fates, reawakening in them the desire to move, dream and live. With his third film, JJ becomes an international case. He develops the story starting from the actors and putting on to film his friendships with Waits, Lurie and Benigni. As in On the Road by Kerouac - and Lurie's character is called Jack - what counts is the journey, the need to move and to go. Did JJ know where he would arrive? We can't say for sure, but the result is one of his best works, loved by the worldwide public and critics and a cult film of the American cinema of the 1980s.
