Sinossi / Synopsis
A Memphis c'è un hotel scalcinato dove dormono, per una notte e per ragioni differenti, i protagonisti dei tre episodi: due turisti giapponesi in visita ai luoghi-culto del rock'n'roll (in Far from Yokohama); una donna italiana che accompagna la bara del marito morto e alla quale appare Elvis Presley in persona (in A Ghost), tre disadattati complici di un fortuito omicidio (in Lost in Space). JJ va in pellegrinaggio a Memphis con gli occhi di chi ha un'idea leggendaria dell'America e si confronta con il decadimento di un sogno. Ricco di situazioni surreali ed esilaranti, Mystery Train è un viaggio sul binario del rock che - come il fantasma di Elvis - si materializzano nella presenza dei non-attori scelti da JJ: da Joe Strummer - leader storico dei Clash - a Screamin' Jay Hawkins, al cammeo di Rufus Thomas e della calda voce del dj Tom Waits, cantore della notte.
In Memphis there is a downtrodden hotel where the protagonists of the three episodes stay for one night, for different reasons: two Japanese tourists visiting the cult places of rock 'n' roll (in Far from Yokohama); an Italian woman who is travelling with her husbands coffin and to whom Elvis Presley appears in person (in A Ghost), three misfits who are accomplices in a chance murder (in Lost in Space). JJ makes a pilgrimage to Memphis through the eyes of those who have a legendary idea of America and come face to face with the decline of a dream. Full of surreal and exhilarating situations, Mystery Train is a journey on the track of rock music which - like Elvis's ghost - materializes in the presence of the non-actors chosen by JJ: from Joe Strummer - the historic leader of the Clash - to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, the cameo role of Rufus Thomas and the warm voice of the DJ Tom Waits, singer of the night.
