Tigrero doveva essere uno dei più ambiziosi film del grande Samuel Fuller. Nel 1954 il regista volò nel cuore dell'Amazzonia entrando in relazione con la comunità indigena Karaja, per riprendere le loro abitudini. Le scene documentarie avrebbero fatto parte di una storia d'avventura con John Wayne e Ava Gardner, ma gli innumerevoli scontri di Fuller con i produttori impedirono il compimento del film. Nel 1994 il finlandese Mika Kaurismäki, assieme al vecchio Fuller e all'amico JJ, torna nei luoghi dove avvennero le riprese, per ristabilire i contatti con la popolazione locale. Un altro film "indefinibile", a cavallo tra documentario etnografico e messa in scena, rievocazione della memoria e gioco di falsificazione; un cinema delocalizzato e necessariamente "collettivo"; un viaggio di nuovo iniziatico sulle tracce di un sogno rimasto a mezz'aria 40 anni prima.
Tigrero was to have been one of the most ambitious films by the great Samuel Fuller. In 1954, the director flew to the heart of Amazonia coming into contact with the Karaja tribe, to film their habits. The documentary scenes were to have been part of an adventure story with John Wayne and Ava Gardner, but Fuller's countless conflicts with the producers prevented the film being made. In1994, the Finnish director Mika Kaurismäki, together with an elderly Fuller and his friend JJ, went back to the locations, to re-establish contacts with the local population. Another "indefinable" film, straddling ethnographic documentary and fiction, re-evocation of memory and a game of falsification; delocalized and necessarily "collective" cinema, another initiatory journey on the traces of a dream that had hovered in the air for 40 years.
