L'espressione "giocare a fare la guerra" ha un valore tutto speciale in The Wild Hunt, opera prima di Alexandre Franchi, produzione indipendente costata 500.000 dollari e che ne dimostra molti di più. Il giovane Erik, biondo e corpulento come un vichingo, cade nella disperazione quando la fidanzata Evelyn lo scarica per entrare a far parte di una comunità di role players, giocatori di ruolo perfettamente a loro agio nella sfida tra Vichinghi e Celti. Sono un gruppo di appassionati - o fanatici? - che erroneamente nessuno, Erik compreso, prenderebbe sul serio, e che al contrario vivono in una vera roccaforte nel bosco, indossano costumi tipici e sono particolarmente rigidi sul rispetto delle regole del gioco. Erik comprende presto che con la razionalità non riuscirà a riconquistare il cuore della fidanzata, a meno di non entrare a far parte del gioco, calandosi nei panni del cavaliere a cui hanno rubato l'amore e combattendo per riconquistarlo. Prendere il gioco sul serio, tuttavia, si rivelerà tragicamente pericoloso. Appassionante e ricco di invenzioni, The Wild Hunt confonde mirabilmente i piani tra ricostruzione e realtà, alternando toni goliardici a momenti di altissima tensione. Concepito come un gioco in cui nessuno è più in grado - o ha più il potere - di decretarne la fine, rivela in modo intelligente la natura assurda e infantile della guerra e della ferocia umana.

"The expression playing at war has a very special meaning in The Wild Hunt, the debut work of Alexandre Franchi, an independent production which cost 500,000 dollars but seems of a much higher value. The young Erik, blond and burly as a Viking, falls into despair when his fiancèe Evelyn leaves him to join a community of role players, who are in their element playing the battle between Vikings and Celts. They are a group of fans - or fanatics? - who, bar none, Erik included, take it very seriously, and who live in a stronghold in the woods wearing costumes, and who are particularly strict regarding the rules of the game. Erik quickly understands that reasoning won't win back his fiancèe's heart, unless he joins in the game and throws himself into the role of the knight who has had his love stolen from him and is fighting to win her back. Taking the game seriously, however, will prove to be tragically dangerous. Exciting and richly inventive, The Wild Hunt blends reconstruction and reality beautifully, alternating between humorous tones and moments of extreme tension. Designed as a game in which nobody is more able - or has more power - to determine the ending, it cleverly reveals the absurd and infantile nature of war and of human cruelty."

"Tutti i miei cortometraggi hanno parlato di persone che cercavano nella loro immaginazione un rifugio dalla dura realtà. The Wild Hunt racconta l'uso che si pu fare dell'immaginazione non pi come una droga, ma come qualcosa che dà forza. La realtà crolla addosso al tuo rifugio di fantasia e non hai più un posto dove nasconderti - dove nasconderti dalla vita stessa. Michel de Montaigne disse qualcosa che secondo me esprime bene la condizione dell'uomo del XXI secolo: So bene quel che fuggo, ma non quello che cerco. Ma noi adesso sappiamo cosa stiamo cercando... Così, il film è un tentativo di cogliere quel qualcosa. È il nostro grido di guerra, il nostro incantesimo di settimo livello, il nostro Attacco Speciale. Questo film è la nostra Caccia Selvaggia".
"My short films had been about people taking refuge into their imagination, away from the harsh reality of life. The Wild Hunt was about using imagination as a source of strength instead as of a drug. It was about reality crashing down on your fantasy refuge and you have nowhere to hide - nowhere to hide from life. Michel de Montaigne said something that I believe summarizes the 21st century man - "I know well what I am fleeing, but not what I am after". We now know what we're after... So, this film, this is our attempt at seizing it. This is our battle cry, our 7th level spell, our Special Attack. This film is our Wild Hunt."

Biografia/Biography
Nel 1999 Alexandre decide di seguire la sua passione per il cinema e di abbandonare il mondo degli affari. Dal 2003 è impegnato a dirigere film: nelle sue storie i personaggi trovano sollievo nel mondo immaginario. Entrambi i suoi cortometraggi Troll Concerto e Terminal Venus sono stati selezionati al Toronto International Film Festival. Terminal Venus ha vinto nel 2003 il Platinum Remi Award al Worldfest Houston Festival.
In 1999 Alexandre decided to follow his passion for film and quit the business world. Since 2003 he spent his time directing films: in his stories, characters find solace in the imaginary world. Both his short film Troll Concerto and Terminal Venus screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Terminal Venus won the Platinum Remi Award at the 2003 Worldfest Houston Festival.
