Gabriele Salvatores will be the new Milano Film Festival Artistic Director. The director will guide the Festival, which has come to the 23rd edition this year and will take place from September 29th to October 7th at ANTEO Palazzo del Cinema, at Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato and at BASE Milano.

Led by the new Artistic Director, supported by Alessandro Beretta – Artistic Director from 2011, esterni, Milanese cultural enterprise born in 1995, and the City of Milan are committed to reestablish to the city a cinema festival grown and renovated, a gathering place for the any citizens of Milan – with a special attention to the youngest ones – for whom the Milano Film Festival still represents a research center focused to the latest and most innovative sectors of contemporary cinematography, in continuity with the past editions.

“I’d like to give my best wishes to the Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores for his work – said the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala – I am sure that under his direction, Milano Film Festival will continue to grow, enhancing experimentation and new voices of International cinema. Thanks to the contribution and to the never obvious gaze of Salvatores, this event – which for years has illuminated the cultural life of Milan – will confirm itself as an excellent interpreter of the contemporary soul of our city”.

Independent Cinema, international guests, new technologies (first of all Virtual Reality, as a natural continuation of the experience gained during the past edition), a renovated and always stronger attention to new generations, also through the development of a gaming project, will be the main themes of the festival, which along these lines will deal with the complexity of the cinematic art.

The Festival and the City of Milan want this 23rd edition to be the starting-point of a multi-year project, aiming to the Festival’s international strengthening, so that Milan could become a new center for cinematography industry.

The feast’s atmosphere through the whole city won’t be missing, since it is in the Festival’s DNA from the beginning until today: a square, an occasion for connecting people, a week in which the Festival will bring public space to life through a high-quality International cultural programme.

Therefore esterni opens up its project to new collaborations, ideas and resouces, sure that only thanks to the combination of different forces and competences Milan can occupy the space it deserves within the Italian as well as the International cinematic scene.
