The Milano Film Festival breaks out of the city
piazza

places and dates
re-distribution project

Organising certain festival events in the outskirts of the city, away from the most commonly used venues, is part of a project which aims to re-qualify public places. This is also a way to turn the focus from traditional Milan centres to more neglected areas temporarily making them the new cultural city centres. Although only for short periods, regularly changing venues used for cultural events can strengthen the economic, social and cultural value of the outskirts, by creating a bridge between it and the rest of the city. Every year the Milano Film Festival attracts thousands of visitors, giving them the opportunity to meet new people, exchange ideas on cultural projects and have fun altogether. So from 1st to 15th September a few of the squares in the outskirts of Milan will for one night become the place to be. During the festival, from 15th to 24th September, a selection of the best short films from the 10 past editions of the Milano Film Festival will be screened in the squares of the other 6 main towns in Lombardia. With the 11th edition, the Milano Film Festival expands into other Lombardian municipalities, trying to create a bridge between the centre, i.e. Milan, and the surrounding areas. This festival has its original roots in Milan, but it has all the qualities to become a regional event.
