Praised by some critics, plainly rejected by some others, the two filmmakers have been working together since 1986, and despite their somewhat troubled productive processes they have always been masters of their films, independent and unconventional, but significant to the film history: pure outsiders, both for their rigorous poetics and their choice of non-professional actors turned into symbols of a poetic world. This poetic and productive autonomy strikes a jarring note in a country where films far too often feature a closed circle of actors and loves.
We decided to show the festivalgoers the wide diversity of works produced by Ciprì and Maresco, whether in film or video format - chosen mainly for short films -, including TV broadcasts: from black and white portraits of Palermo, a perfect setting for stories of couples, to depictions of the filmmakers' deep passion for jazz music and extraordinary film masters.
The programme includes their feature films, a selection of TV productions and short films, and a meeting between the two filmmakers and the festivalgoers. (wednesday 19th, 9.00 pm, Park – Stranglehold Room)
