Il documentario racconta le origini delle Riot Grrrl nella scena della musica indipendente anni Novanta e di come attraverso band come Bikini Kill, Heavens to Betsy e Bratmobile, e a uno strumento di comunicazione libero ed autoprodotto come la fanzine, questo movimento femminista si sia evoluto in una rete underground di educazione e coscienza di sé, grazie alla musica, alla scrittura e all’attivismo.
The film features one-on-one interviews interspersed with rare, archive materials, including original Riot Grrrl fanzines, flyers, and photographs, as well as seldom seen footage from pioneering Riot Grrrl bands like Bikini Kill, Heavens to Betsy, and Bratmobile and it shows how the movement evolved and gained self-conciousness through music, writing and activism.
