The complete works of Ermanno Olmi, from his debut film Il tempo si è fermato (Time Stood Still) to the latest Terra Madre. The section also includes TV films made in the 60s and 70s, and the winners of important awards, like L'albero degli zoccoli (The Tree of Wooden Clogs), awarded the Golden Palm at Cannes in 1978, and La leggenda del santo bevitore (The Legend of the Holy Drinker), winner of the Venice Golden Lion. All works will be screened in film format.

Other formats
Influenced by Rossellini's theories on TV language, Ermanno Olmi made many TV films. From the Sixties, when he collaborated with the likes of Corrado Stajano, he has been producing reports, in-depth news, and educational programmes. His is a tireless for the "perfect" language for the "magic box". This section includes a selection of these materials, some of which are extremely rare.

The "22 dicembre" Case
In 1961 Olmi set up a small independent production house with a group of friends, some long-time collaborators at Edison, and others - like Tullio Kezich. His aim is to create an alternative circuit for Italian independent films and young filmmaking talents. Not much differently than today's brave "small" producers, who dare to challenge major producers and offer refined and difficult contents. This experience lasted just few years, but it included Lina Wertmuller's debut, and beautiful works by directors De Bosio and Eriprando Visconti. And, llast but not least, it produced the first part of Roberto Rossellini's huge multimedia project.

Hired by the supply office of EdisonVolta, from the very beginning Olmi highlighted his artistic skills. When he was given a company camera as a present, he set up Edison's Film Department. In just a few years, he made dozens of industrial documentaries that - using a language far from that typical of this genre - explored and pushed the possibilities of documentaries to their limit. The short films included in this section - personally chosen by Olmi - had a deep influence on the following films.
