Introduction

Since 2003, the national census "I Luoghi del Cuore" promoted by FAI - the National Trust for Italy - and Banca Intesa Sanpaolo, has made with the help of hundreds of thousands of citizens a list of thousands of places with different features: small churches and mountain lakes, beaches and statues, large historic villas and mills. They are little-known places to be highlighted, or places that are already famous, but have made a deep impression on those who have seen them. They might also be treasures in danger, threatened by neglect and uncontrolled building development. All these cases, which are very different from one another, share as a common element the love that people who have pointed them out feel for these places.

"I luoghi del cuore" is committed to raise citizens' and institutional awareness regarding heritage protection, so that the next generation will have the chance to enjoy it too. This year, thanks to the collaboration with Milano Film Festival, we wanted to do it in a new way, offering the opportunity to create a story about the places chosen by the filmmakers, so that filmmaking would also help save our favorite places. Many subjects have been submitted, and we were impressed by the filmmakers' gentle touch, even that of the youngest, in telling about the protection of the monumental and natural heritage. Among the 10 short films created thanks to the financial support by "I Luoghi del Cuore", one will be selected as the winner of a special award bestowed by filmmaker Giorgio Diritti.
