Introduction
Città in Movimento is a visual exploration of landscapes and urban spaces, an encounter between architecture and filmmaking, town planning and media design, a particular point of view on the architectural and social transformations in today's cities. Before every screening, meetings and roundtables will take place, with the participation of professionals from the worlds of architecture and filmmaking, as well asfrom other disciplines.
For the third year in a row, Milano Film Festival dedicates a special section to the visual representation of small and large urban transformations, tracing a deeply intense and striking portrait.
The aim of this section is to show how films, videos, and digital animation can contribute to enrich the approach of the classic disciplines to the topics of space and cities, helping analyzing and exploring spaces before designing a project, and introducing scenarios that the globalized world media often do not even notice.
Architects and urban planners have always used filmmaking to illustrate and spread their ideas: just think about futurist filmmaking or German expressionist filmmaking, in which cities composed by the most modern architectures are at the centre of the scene, being both containers and fundamental objects of the film narration. Filmmaking has always played a vital role in the process of interpreting the city, and it has been a useful means to understand contemporary cities' development and the social dynamics that derive from it.
