Soundoc Introduction
The programme

Introduction
For the 2009 edition, Soundoc changes its format and doubles.
More than ever this year, the selection of documentaries traces an ideal route around the globe and - through some of the most interesting present-day musical scenes - tells stories about distant places and people. From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where funk bursts up and down in the favela (Favela on Blast), stopping for a walk on a Jamaican beach and through the main centres of dub music, such as NYC, LA, São Paulo, Rio and London (Dub Echoes), to a meeting with Otomo Yoshihide in a Japanese garden (Kikoe). Surprisingly, the journey ends in Italy and it starts again with one of the most original and prolific Italian musicians setting out to conquer the wide spaces of the United States, where he recorded with Calexico one of the tracks from his new album. Discover a brand new Vinicio Capossela on the road.
Moreover, the section will also feature a focus on Jem Cohen, a filmmaker from New York who has been making films since the early 1980's and who dedicated a great part of his filmography to the exploration of the music that is created, that spreads and resists out of the mainstream.
