separe.gif Soundoc. An insight into world music

In 2007, Soundoc was the novelty: a music documentary season, designed in collaboration with Barcellona's In-Edit Beefeater festival. In 2008, it will be richer and richer in its contents.

A journey through music that starter in 2007. During this last year the music documentaries we have watched have led us through the world, introducing us to characters, groups, and genres, and telling us the stories of traditions, instruments, and music scenes. The criterion guiding film selection for this second edition of the section was uniqueness. And an essential quality: to take us on a journey around the world, turn our heads, and make us want to dance all day and all night long.

That music is the element uniting the whole world is a fact.
The quotes featured in Global Metal, by Scott McFayden and Sam Dunn, sound almost Zen. According to one of them, music is a whole that belongs to everyone, like the sky. An interpretation of the popularity of a genre that depicts (geo)politics and human nature more accurately than many sociological articles.
On the contrary, Part of the Weekend Never Dies, by Saam Farahmand, has a much more "classical" structure. It follows Soulwax's Nite Versions tour, described by Fabio De Luca as "one of the best shows of the last four years: the perfect synthesis of Kraftwerk, Prince, and Queens of the Stone Age." Kavaputki, by Edward Quist, belongs to a different genre again, so essential and hypnotic that it seems to go back to the origins of filmmaking: the bare, pure graphic representation of the steady beat of music. One Man in the Band, by Adam Clithero, is instead a celebration of eccentricity, factual genius, and ego(t)ism in music.
No matter whether electronic or blues music. Because even those who play on their own might feel less lonely than many rock stars.
