SYNOPSIS

An investigation into self-identity carried out by following in the footsteps of Scottish explorer John McGregor, who journeyed down the river Jordan from its source to the Sea of Galilea. Travel literature of the nineteenth century becomes the compass for exploring the link with the homeland for these two artists, who are Israeli but have been resident in Belgium for some time. “As well as geographical distance, this is a film about mental and emotional distance: seeing a place as it has been seen by the Jews of the diaspora for 2000 years, as something symbolic rather than tangible”. It is a film about Israel and Israelis, not during wartime but on holiday, in an area of the West Bank (the valley of Jordan, Area C – entirely under the civil and military control of Israel) where occupation is more strategic than ever.
