Focus on Animation

Animation is a genre that can everyones taste and those who think it's nothing but "kids stuff" have never been to one Focus on Animation's screenings. This important section dedicated to the world of animation presents the Italian premiere of an animated feature film, the traditional short film marathon and an intensive workshop for all those who wish to experiment with the most innovative techniques in this field.

Once again, there will be an animated film marathon. On Monday September 12th, at Parco Sempione, animation-lovers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of international animated cinema. For more than four hours you can embark on a fascinating journey that introduces you to various different styles: 3D animation and graphic techniques, dreamlike and narrative works, new graphic expressions and irony. Focus on Animation includes films from some of the best schools and most renowned artists and studios from Italy and around the world. This study of animated films is of international importance and gives voice to well-known authors as well as young talents.

The Feature Film

The national preview of this editions film, after the wonderful Oscar winning Mary&Max by Adam Elliot in 2009, and the medieval adventures of The Secret of Kells in 2010, is Chico y Rita by Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal and Tono Errando.

STASH – the future of animation in 60 seconds

A not-to-be-missed rendezvous to discover the universe of STASH MEDIA, an online video library which has been collecting for years the best animation and motion graphics used in advertising. Not just a commissioned job, but a great selection and a journey through snippets which combine the most state-of-the-art techniques and creativity. Because the future of animation is in 60 seconds, or a little bit more.

Gobelins, tale of an image

The second appointment with the short films of Focus on Animation is dedicated to the creations of Gobelins, l'้cole de l'image. Sixty minutes to retrace the recent history of the famous Parisian school, which has trained animators, photographers and video artists; has made jingle for the Festival of Annecy and received several Oscar nominations. Eric Riewer, leader and spokesman of the school, will show a selection of 2D and 3D works by well known and emerging artists.
