Fantastic Mr. Poster
Fantastic Mister Poster: tribute dedicated to Randall Poster
Fantastic Mr Poster
The sixteenth edition of Milano Film Festival (9-18 September) pays a tribute to Randall Poster, the cult music supervisor of the American cinema of the last twenty years.
Randall Poster is going to present five works from its vast filmography as well as five classics of the American cinema, which have inspired him and changed his way of looking at songs in the framework of a film soundtrack.
The artist is also going to give a master class about the music supervisor profession. This is an absolute unique opportunity for both experts of cinema and those working in communications and advertising.
The tribute to Randall Poster will reach its climax with the exclusive final DJ mix-set in the venue of Parco Sempione.
About Randall Poster
Randall Poster has redefined the way of using songs in films, soon becoming the most sought-after music supervisor. Poster's contribution has been fundamental for directors such as Todd Haynes and Wed Anderson, who have always been strongly linked to the musical choices in their films. Not only does Poster contribute to soundtracks but he also participates to the artistic development of the story and the script.
During the twenty years of his career, Randall Poster conceived and supervised soundtracks for more than 90 films, starting from Kids (1995) directed by Larry Clark and written by Harmony Korine. Poster is one of the closest Wes Anderson's partners and he supervised the music for all his films, from Rushmore (1998) to Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009). Among his most original contributions, we can name Gummo (1997) by Korine, A Life Less Ordinary (1997) by Danny Boyle, Velvet Goldmine (1998) and I'm not there (2007) by Todd Haynes, Meet the Parents (2000) by Jay Roach, Zoolander (2001) by Ben Stiller, The School of Rock (2003) and Before Sunset (2004) by Linklater, The Aviator (2004) by Martin Scorsese, Zodiac (2007) by David Fincher, Revolutionary Road (2008) and Away We Go (2009) by Sam Mendes, Up in the Air (2009) by Jason Reitman. He also worked for television, supervising the music for the second season of Lost (2006-2007), the award-winning Boardwalk Empire (2010) and the HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce (2011) by Haynes. The collaboration with Todd Phillips is also very intense. Poster supervised the music for Old School (2003), Starsky & Hutch (2004) and for the successful Hangover (2009) and Hangover Part II (2011).
Randall Poster has founded Search Party, a music consultancy company that traverses the worlds of advertising, television and film.
For the 75th anniversary of the birth of Buddy Holly, Randall Poster has created and supervised the compilation album Rave On Buddy Holly, featuring unpublished covers by important artists like Lou Reed, Paul McCartney, Black Keys, Patti Smith, Modest Mouse and Cee Lo Green.
