Focus on Animation

What’s today’s global scene of animation like? What are the contemporary panoramas of animation? Every year the Milano Film Festival, with the Focus on animation, tries to answer these questions by screening over three hours of animated film in the Parco Sempione. The continuous affluence of the public to the animation marathon – which has become a real meeting place for animators, illustrators and film fans – bears witness to the vitality of a means of expression which has extended its domain well beyond the cinema screen.

This section aspires to being an X-ray of the world of animation, outlining the state-of-the-art on the most innovative techniques and on the most interesting artistic paths: 2D, live action hybrids, illustration, 3D, computer graphics, plasticine, stop motion, claymation, silhouettes and shadow theatre. No technique is overlooked and none is privileged.
